Why I love the Durga Pujo of CITY OF JOY and #VodafoneAagomoni

This year in October, Kolkata sees the ‘Rio Carnival of the East’, the festival of Durga Puja, which has been now officially declared as the biggest carnival in the world. The hearts of Bongs thumping faster, the grandeur of pandals better than ever and the time spend by Bengalis world over to plan their Pujo outfits – welcomes the Mother Goddess home.

It won’t be an exaggeration to believe that this is the most sought-after festival in whole of West Bengal, especially in Kolkata. The entire city along with its visitors is on the streets enjoying the breath-taking the Pandal décor, savouring the extravagant food, relishing the gigantic chandeliers and the electronic animated lighting and just observing other people. The city thrives in the joy and bliss of Mother Goddess’ homecoming.

The onset of Mahalaya heralds the countdown to one of the city’s most coveted cultural events – the #VodafoneAagomoni. This year the event will start on October 7 and will go on with LIVE nightlong grand musical extravaganza featuring an eclectic mix of music and dance legends – Hari Haran, Rituparna Sengupta and troupe, Debajyoti Mishra, Rupankar Bagchi and Konineeca Banerjee, Lopamudra and Subhamita, Band Advaita, Bickram Ghosh and team, to name a few.

From people waking up to the chants of mantras on the beats of the traditional drums or ‘dhaaks’ will get to enjoy the dhak played by authentic dhakis, along with the chanting of slokas at the event. The event will go on to dazzle and delight people for the rest of the evening. #VodafoneAagomoni 2018 is being celebrated in the city at the Science City Auditorium.

Apart from the audio-visual treat that Durgotsav brings, people celebrating the festival will also have the chance to engage with two Vodafone Buddy humanoids – that are designed to provide a seamless, engaging brand experience for its customers.

This Kolkata’s signature pre Durgotsav event has become the most sought-after events over the past 17 years and its 18th edition is expected to be to another memorable evening of art, music and dance.
